Challenge Accepted

Here I am, embarking on a new Threadless challenge for a jetpack design. No, not the flying kind you see in the futuristic sci-fi movies. More like a regular backpack with a fancier name that’s all.

For the benefit of those new to threadless.com, it started as an online store where users get to submit their own t-shirts designs. Designs will be available for voting by Threadless members for a 7 day period. Members can rate the designs from 0 to 5 with 5 being the best and 0 being the worst. At the end of the voting period, the average score will be tabulated. The highly rated designs will then be selected to be printed as Threadless tees.

From time to time, Threadless issue challenges with specific design themes. They have also expanded their range of products to include hoodies, singlets, polo tees, backpacks and jetpacks. So that’s all I have for Threadless 101.

Moving on to the design I’ve submitted…

Gimli axe and ponytail design

“And My Axe!” up for voting at threadless.com

It’s a reference to the brash dwarven character from the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy, Gimli. “And my axe” is actually one of the lines from the movie made popular as a meme.

I figured it would make a pretty handy ice-breaker to carry such an awesome jetpack. Provided you’re not a shortie. If you are, you can always try taking the jokes in your stride and be known as the guy-who-don’t-mind-laughing-at-himself.

Sign up for a threadless account and vote for my design! Critique and comments are very much welcome.

Let’s Not Forget About My Tees

Yup, after all this started as a blog to showcase my t-shirt designs. But before I go into my latest design, big shout out to those who took the time out and commented on my previous post. And nope I didn’t win the Lomography challenge. But thank you guys nonetheless. Feel free to keep those comments coming for my future posts. It gets kinda lonely in here ya know?

So there. I just completed a tshirt design for my website shirtyfooty.com. It was actually a pretty random idea. I’ve previously gotten a fair bit of positive feedback with my cartoony doodles. So I was thinking, why not try that out for my next design? And of course my subject has got to be interesting and unique. And you don’t come any more interesting than Gervinho, an Arsenal footballer with a flamboyant hairstyle/head/forehead, to put it mildly.

Ahh that’s my man. I remember having a solid 10 minutes discussion with my homies, deciding whether Gervinho was wearing a wig. It’s so unreal. Btw our discussion was inconclusive.

Inspired, this is what I came up with,

Gervinho forehead tee

I added a distressed texture to the design cos that is what I’ve always wanted to do. And boy was it hard work. I spent the same amount of time if not more, distressing the design than actually creating it. Well, practice makes perfect. I’m gonna have to do more and refine my distressing techniques.

So if you’re digging it, or the other designs on my site, now will be a good time to make a purchase or two. There is a shipping promotion from 29 – 30 Oct (yea I know, it’s so short), where US shipping is free of charge and US$9.50 discount off international shipments. You just have to enter the coupon code WITCHINGHOUR when checking out.

So shop away people! Time to begin preparations for those Christmas presents.

That’s My New Year Resolution Sorted

…before the middle of the year no less. Yayness! I made a promise to start my own online shop selling t-shirts. So here it is. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, shirtyfooty.com.

As the name suggests, the main focus is on football(soccer) t-shirts. On my part, I’ll be coming up with the designs, while the printing and shipping will be handled by the guys over at spreadshirt.com. It’s kinda like renting an online shop space from them, and they take care of the customer end of things. If you guys are interested to know more about opening your own shop, clickety over here.

I decided to go with Spreadshirt as they are pretty reputable and I’ve heard good stuffs about the quality of their prints as compared to other t-shirt producers such as Zazzle and Cafepress. Plus they offer a wide range of t-shirt brands such as American Apparel, Gildan, Anvil, etc. So plenty of choices for everyone.

Other than designing the t-shirts, there was and still is plenty of work to be done. I had to set up my own website which was quite a fair bit of work. From registering domain, choosing a web host and hand coding my own webpages. And there is also the marketing and promoting which is equally if not more time consuming than the actual designing process. To juggle all that and maintain a semblance of social life is pretty darn challenging. Not to mention there is the day job too. But I did it! Thank god for a supportive gf! You da bomb binbin!

Needless to say, I’m pretty proud to have achieved what I set out to do. But this is not the be all and end all. I know there is still plenty of work to be done to make it a success. This is when you guys come in! Do drop by the site and check out some of the stuff. Will love any suggestions and feedback, be it designs, webpages, marketing, the works. Be a darling and share the site with your friends and family. Link us on your blogs. Check out the shirtyfooty blog, like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter. Drinks on me if I managed to sell 50 shirts in this month.

Lemme see… Hmmm. That makes it 50 more to go.

Keep Fingers Away From Lens

As I said in my previous post. I will be attempting to rid myself of the fat fingers syndrome for a shot at redemption. So here it is!

Tada! Yes! It’s a custom made sticker designed by me! I’m gonna stick it at the back of my UWS so whenever I am about to shoot, I shall be reminded to KEEP FINGERS AWAY FROM LENS!

Something about the design. It’s actually showing the back of the camera and the appropriate way to hold it (in my opinion) such that your fingers don’t get in the way. I used myself as the model for the reference picture.

Yea I know. Nice wallpaper.

Anyway I incorporated the design on a t-shirt, such that the color can be changed along with the shirt color. There is plenty of color choices. Like how the Superheadz UWS have an array of funky colors. Check them out!

Sweet huh. So if you’re an UWS owner stricken by fatfingernitis. Or you would like to own the t-shirt just for the heck of it. Check these stuffs out at my redbubble account.

For the tee, click here. Remember you can choose the tee color to match your UWS.

For the sticker, click here. Unfortunately, I only designed it in blue, since it matches my blue ribbon. If you would like it in any other color just drop a comment. I might just upload another version. Of course, you can also get this as a tee if it tickles your fancy.

Hopefully, this will be good enough to appease the almighty Lomo Lord. Amen.

Sam the Schizo Snowman

From what started as a blog to show my tee designs, I know it has been eons since my last one. This cannot go on as my hordes of fans will be so disappointed.

So what better way to make a comeback than dropping a new design just in time for Christmas? Yes! It’s a Christmas theme tee!! Rejoice people because this is my early Christmas gift to you!

Introducing Sam the Schizo Snowman….

Well, Sam has a problem. He is a schizo. One day, he cuts two hole into a purple rag and pretends he is Donatello. Some days, he puts on his Groucho Marx disguise. When he gets into a revolutionary mood, he dons a beret and transform into Che. And there is Gene Simmons from KISS, the Joker, Mickey, Mario and Kenny. These are just a few of his personalities.

If you will like to purchase this shirt (which will definitely make a perfect gift in my honest and definitely not biased opinion), you can do so over here. Over at the site, you can play with the tee shirt color and see how the design holds up in different colored background. You can view a larger version of the design too. Also, feel free to drop any comments if you think any of the characters look iffy. I can always make some changes and upload a new version, if I happen to agree with your suggestions.

Another reason why you should whip out your credit card right now is that redbubble is having a Christmas sale till 25th of December. There is a 20% discount on all white apparel. Find out more over here. I have some other designs that will look awesome in white which you guys may like to check it out. Remember, it’s free delivery if you order 4 or more t-shirts. So gather round all your friends and family for a mass order!

That is all I have for now. I’m gonna kick back and take a well deserved break. Till then. Cheers!
